Pennsylvania Drivers Ed

How do I get my permit?

You need to be at least 16 years old to get a permit. It’s impossible to get one before you are 16!

To prepare for your written test at the Driver License Center, we recommend taking Aceable’s Pennsylvania Drivers Ed course. In addition to that, you can study from the Pennsylvania Driver Manual. It is possible to finish the course and receive your certificate from us even before getting your permit. Your certificate is good for insurance discounts and for getting your senior license at 17 ½ years old.

When you’re at the Driver License Center, you’ll do a vision screening and take your knowledge test. If you pass both and all of your documents check out, you will be given a learner’s permit which is valid for 1 year.

EXTREMELY HIGH SUMMER VOLUMES WITH COVID - Starting in June and expecting to continue through September, we are experiencing extremely high volumes across chats, phones and email. We have limited phone and chat support hours, and are working hard to serve every student with care. Phone wait times can be up to 30 minutes during peak times, and while we respond to every student contact that we receive, we are currently averaging 2-3 business days to respond. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. For all Coronavirus Impact Updates, please click here.
