Taking the Course

How long is the course?

The state of Pennsylvania requires you to take a 30-hour drivers ed course if you plan to get your senior license before turning 18. This course is not required for you to obtain your learner’s permit or your junior license. The state of Pennsylvania requires that the course takes a minimum of 15 days to finish. In order to help you pace yourself, you are limited to working on the course for 1 hour and 15 minutes maximum per day.

You can access your course from your desktop, laptop, phone, and tablet, and you can log on and off whenever you want. While there are timers in the course, they’re set at a pace much faster than the speed that most people read. You won’t even notice them! The course also never expires, so you don’t have to worry about any deadlines – Aceable works around your schedule.

Throughout the course, there are 19 level assessments that are 10 questions each. You just need to score at least 70% to pass! You can retake them over and over again until you pass.

At the very end of the course, you will take the final exam which you need to pass with at least 70%. You can retake it over and over again until you pass. 48 hours after passing, Aceable will email you your Certificate of Completion on behalf of Blue Bell Driving.

Does the program expire?

Nope! You can take as long as you need to finish up.

Why am I locked out of the course?

The state of Pennsylvania requires that the course takes a minimum of 15 days to finish. In order to help you pace yourself, you are limited to working on the course for 1 hour and 15 minutes maximum per day.

You can begin working on the course again since the timers reset everyday at 12 PM Eastern Time.

If you are not unlocked by that time, please contact our Customer Experience Heroes so that we can unlock you.

What happens if I fail a level assessment?

There are 19 level assessments. You’ll get to your first one in Level 2. Each level assessment is 10 questions long. You just need to score at least 70% in order to pass.

If you fail, you can retake the level assessment over and over again until you pass. You can retake the level assessment immediately.

What happens if I fail the final assessment?

The final assessment is 30 questions long and you need to score at least 70% to pass. There is no time limit, so don’t fret – you’ll make it through to the end!

If you fail, you can just retake the final exam over and over again until you pass. You do not have to retake the course!

Why do I have to answer identity security questions?

The state of Pennsylvania requires that Aceable verify the identity of students taking the course. We do this by asking you some identity security questions based on information in your Aceable Student Profile. This system is made to ensure that the person who signed up for the course is actually the one taking it.

You’ll be asked these identity security questions before and after your final exam. If you miss a question (which we doubt you will, since these questions are all about you!), no worries, you have one more try. If you miss both questions, you will be locked out of our program. To get unlocked, contact our Customer Experience Heroes! All we will need do is some additional verification and we’ll unlock your account so that you can move forward and receive your certificate from us 48 hours after finishing our program.

How do I get my certificate?

Once you pass your final exam, you will automatically receive a confirmation email from Aceable within an hour. Then, 48 hours after passing, Aceable will email you your official course completion certificate, which you will print out. If you plan to use this certificate to get your senior license before you turn 18:

  1. Print your course completion certificate.
  2. Fill out the DL-59 application to upgrade to a senior license.
  3. Bring those items to PennDOT or mail it to them.

Note: Your certificate will state that it is issued by Blue Bell Driving, our licensed partner in Pennsylvania. Aceable is an official theory provider for classroom coursework via Blue Bell.

What do I do if I'm locked out of the course for failing the security questions?

All you need to do is contact our Customer Experience Heroes. We will ask you some additional verification questions. If you answer correctly, we will unlock your account so that you can complete the course. After that, you will need to progress through the very end of the course so that we will be able to e-mail your certificate 48 hours after you complete the course.

What is the progress log?

The Progress Log shows you when you started and completed a certain level and chapter.

Here’s an example of what the Progress Log looks like:

L = Level

C = Chapter

The points on the right are points that a student earned in a specific chapter. The points don’t count for or against you, and they don’t affect your level tests or final exam scores – they’re just for fun!

How do I take a practice test?

Practice tests are available for all Aceable Drivers Ed courses, not for Texas Defensive Driving or California Traffic School.

The practice tests consists of ten multiple choice questions. Students can take as many practice tests as they want at any point in the their course. The practice tests don’t count for or against you, and they don’t affect your level tests or final exam scores.

You can open up the menu and click on “Practice Tests” to take one.

How many levels or chapters do I have left?

There are two ways of seeing your progress and how much is left to go:

  1. Progress Bar on the Home Screen
  2. Table of Contents

Progress Bar

Below is a screenshot of one of our courses. This is what the home screen looks like. Right below the Aceable logo, you will see a progress bar. In this example, this student is 30% complete with the Texas Parent Taught Drivers Ed course. For a more detailed look, read on to learn about how you can see this in the Table of Contents.

Table of Contents

To know how much you have left to go, check out the Table of Contents in the menu of your account.

The Table of Contents gives you an outline of your course and allows you to go back to levels, chapters, and pages you have previously completed so that you can review course material.

Anything you’ve done will be in black or blue. Anything you haven’t yet done will be slightly lighter in color or more transparent.

When you go to the Table of Contents, you’ll notice some letters followed by numbers. These letters and numbers stand for certain levels, chapters, and pages.

L = Level, C = Chapter, P = Page

For example, if you see L1 C2 P3, you are looking at Level 1, Chapter 2, Page 3.

This is what the Table of Contents looks like:

When you click on a level, it will expand to show you the chapters in that level.

When you click on a chapter, it will expand to show you the pages in that chapter.

When you click on a page, you’ll be brought to that specific page in the course and you can review content. You can only go to pages that you have already completed. You are not allowed to jump ahead in the course.
