Getting Started

What is my citation number?

Have no fear! The citation number is…near? Click on the example below to see a bigger version. We have the citation number circled in RED.

Just take a look at your courtesy notice. It’ll be indicated pretty clearly. Don’t confuse it with the docket or case number.

We just need your citation number since we have to report it to the court.

If you don’t know your citation number, give your court a call!

Is there anything I need before getting started?

Yes! First, you need to have received your courtesy notice from your court.

After that, you need to plead guilty to your violation and elect to enroll in Traffic Violator School. Generally, this can be done in person, by mail, or online if your court offers online services like that. At this time, you will also need to pay any court fees. Some courts charge a fee to elect to enroll in traffic school – this charge does not include a traffic school course at all.

Once you have taken care of all this, you can sign up and begin traffic school with us!

Who can take this course?

You can take this course if:

  • You are a licensed driver who is at least sixteen years old.
  • You want to mask a ticket you received and keep points off your driving record.
  • You want to get an insurance discount.

If this is for masking a ticket, you’ll be eligible to take Traffic Violator School if you meet these additional requirements:

  • You have a valid California class C non-commercial driver license. Out-of-state licenses are not eligible.
  • You were not speeding over 25 mph over the speed limit.
  • Your violation is not alcohol-related.
  • You have not attended traffic school within the last 18 months.
  • Your violation happened in a non-commercial vehicle.
  • Your offense was not a misdemeanor.
  • You do not have a violation with a mandatory court appearance.
  • You have paid all necessary court fees and pleaded guilty, no contest, or been convicted by your court for the violation. The conviction would result in a violation point of one to two points on your record. You can view point violations here.

If you do not meet the requirements, unfortunately we cannot report your traffic violator school completion to the court.

What if I got a ticket from a state outside of California?

In general, traffic school courses are only for masking tickets received in California.

We do NOT have a physical certificate that we mail you. All that we provide at the end of the course is a course completion receipt that is sent by email – this is because the normal purpose for this course is for tickets received in California. We report course completions directly to the California DMV. The California DMV website will be unable to pull up tickets received out-of-state.

You will need to contact your court from out-of-state to ask them if:

  1. They will accept an online California traffic school course instead of the options they have within that state.
  2. They will accept our electronic course completion receipt email instead of a physical certificate. We have no way of issuing a physical certificate of completion.

Is Aceable’s California Traffic Violator School program state-approved?

Yes, we are approved by the California DMV as school license #E0803.

What does Aceable’s California Traffic Violator School program include?

  • Aceable is all about convenience. You can log into your account on our website or by downloading the free Aceable Defensive Driving app for iOS and Android devices. You can switch between devices anytime and anywhere you want.
  • Aceable includes 8 hours of engaging and entertaining content written in an easy way for you to understand. Your course will include text, videos, pictures, memes, and pop-up questions galore! You won’t just be reading for 6 hours straight. There are also no timers so you’ll whip right through in no time.
  • Aceable will email you a Completion Receipt after you finish the course and electronically file your Completion Certificate with the court within 24 hours.
  • Aceable’s Customer Experience Heroes are available every day of the week to help answer your questions. You can reach us by phone, email, and live chat.

Are there any additional fees?

Aside from the court fees you have to pay to the court before signing up with us, there are NO additional fees you will pay to Aceable after signing up.

Does the program expire?

No. You can take as long as you need to finish up. However, keep in mind your court deadline!

How soon will you notify my court that I completed the course?

Once you finish the course, here’s what you should expect:

  1. If we have all of your accurate information, we will automatically file your completion information with the DMV within 24 hours.
  2. Once we file your information, you will receive an email from Aceable with your completion receipt. This is to let you know that we have successfully filed your information with your court on the DMV website.
  3. Some courts allow you to check the status of your ticket online – it might take a couple days or weeks for the courts to update your status. As long as you got the completion receipt from us though, you should be good to go. If you want to be extra sure, just contact your court to ask them about it.

If you have not received a completion receipt from us, you have either provided us incorrect information or are missing information.

If you received a completion receipt but your court does not have your information after 2-3 weeks, you may have given us the wrong court code. You will need to call your court to get the right court code and get back to us ASAP so we can correct this!

What do I do if I lost my courtesy notice?

No big deal. Just contact your court to request to have another courtesy notice sent to you. Find your court’s contact information here.

What if my deadline is tomorrow?

Hurry and sign up for the course ASAP! You’ll want to finish by 11:59 PM PST on the day of your deadline. Whenever we file your completion information, the court will see your completion date. As long as you finish on or before your deadline, you are in the clear. Even if we end up filing your completion the next day, the court will see your completion date NOT the date that we file your information.

I can’t find my court name.

It’s easy!

  1. Select the county your court is located in. If you do not know the county, this website will help you figure that out.
  2. Once you select the correct county, you will be able to select your court from the list in “Ticket Issued Court”.

For all courts in LA County, we will ask you for your “Law Enforcement Agency” (LEA). To find your LEA, take a look at the LEA code listed on your courtesy notice. Your LEA is not necessarily the name of your courthouse. This is just how LA County does things! Type your LEA code in and click on the result for your LEA.

Example: If you are with the Santa Monica courthouse, you would type in 1965 and click on “1965 Santa Monica Police Department”.

Cannot find your court still?

This situation typically occurs for smaller courts when their traffic violations are actually processed by a larger court. Contact Aceable and we’ll get in touch with your court to find out who your traffic school course should actually be filed with. We’ll email you back once that information has been added to your profile. In the meantime, just select any court in that county and continue working on your course.

How do I sign up from the website?

Step 1. Head to our checkout page.

Step 2. Select the course you plan to purchase.

NOTE: Drivers Ed is for those trying to get their driver license. Defensive Driving or Traffic School is for those who already have a driver license and are simply trying to dismiss or mask a ticket OR want an insurance discount.

Step 3. Select your payment option.

You can choose between credit card and PayPal. If you have a debit card, select “credit card” and it will work just fine.

Step 4. Enter your payment information.

For credit/debit cards, you’ll be asked to enter your card information. For PayPal, a pop-up window will open and ask you to sign into PayPal.

Step 5a. Enter the first name and email address for the person taking the course.

We refer to people taking our course as “students”. It doesn’t matter how old you are – you’re a “student” taking our course.

Step 5b. (Optional) Click on “Wait, I’m a parent” if you want to create a parent account.

At this point, you can enter your parent email address. Learn more about parent accounts.

Step 6. Click “Complete Purchase”.

Doing this will create an account for any emails you put down.

Step 7. Set your password.

If you only put down a student email, you will be asked to put down a password for the student account you signed up for.

If you put both a student and parent email, we will ask you to put down a password for the PARENT account. The STUDENT will receive an email at the STUDENT’S email address with a link to set up their password.

How do I sign up from the app?

Purchasing Aceable in the app is very easy. You can buy directly through the App Store or Google Play Store OR follow the steps below.

Step 1. Download our app on to your phone or tablet! Tap on either the App Store or Google Play Store buttons for the course you need to download it to your device:

If you make a mistake, tap on “Back” in the upper left hand corner to go back and change what you put in or what you selected.

App Create Account Info

Step 4. Select the state that you are trying to get a license in.

We offer official drivers ed courses in these states: California, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, and Texas.

Surprisingly, most states in the US do not allow online drivers ed. If you’d like to change that, contact your state legislators!

In the meantime, if we don’t offer drivers ed in your state, we offer free unofficial study guides (aka “permit test prep”)!

App Select Course

Step 5. Select your course. If you selected “Texas”, we offer three courses, so make sure to swipe right to see all three choices.

App Select Course

Step 6. Select “I will be taking it” to create a student account. If you select “My child will be taking it”, this creates a parent account and access to parent tools. Parent accounts are always free, so if you want the free trial, you’ll want to set up a student account.

App Parent or Student

Step 7. This step is optional and only shows up if you press “I will be taking it” in Step 6! We always want our parents to be involved in their students’ drivers ed process. After all, your parents are the one taking you to the DMV or DPS to apply for your permit and driver license. If you want to let your parents know that you’re ready to start drivers ed, fill out the form with your parent’s information. Press “Skip” in the upper right corner if you don’t want to do this step.

If you selected “My child will be taking it” in Step 6, move forward to Step 8.

App Ask For Parent Info

Step 8. Tap on “Buy Now”. Once you do that, you’ll sign in to your iTunes or Google Play account. It will automatically charge you and allow you to move on into the course! The screenshot below is for student accounts. Parent accounts will see a different screen, but there is still a “Buy Now” button for you to tap.

If you’re on an iOS device, you can purchase with the credit or debit card linked to your iTunes account. You can also use an iTunes gift card (the amount on the gift card must be equal to or greater than the cost of the course, including sales tax).

If you’re on an Android device, you can purchase with the credit or debit card linked to your Google Play Store account. You can also use a Google Play gift card (the amount on the gift card must be equal to or greater than the cost of the course, including sales tax).

If you’re having trouble making a purchase, contact us here. We’re happy to help you out and get you started on a course!

*Disclaimer: prices in screenshots are subject to change.

How do I set up my student password?

When signing up with BOTH a parent and student email, we ask for the parent to set up a password after your purchase. We send an email to the student email that you gave us. The email contains instructions for setting up a student password.

Below is an example of the email your student received from Aceable. Search for the words “Set Their Password”.

NOTE: Before clicking on the link, make sure nobody is currently signed into Aceable. Parent accounts are automatically signed into Aceable after purchase. If that’s the case, please sign out of the parent account (how do I do that?).

After clicking that link, you will be asked to put in a password. It needs to be at least 6 characters long. It can be all letters or all numbers or a combination.

Once the password has been set, you can click “Continue” to be signed into Aceable. You will be asked to fill out your Student Profile. After doing so, you can begin working on the course.

Still having trouble? Here are some extra steps you can take!

I tried those steps, but I'm still having trouble setting up the student password.

Problem 1. It keeps sending me to a page that says “Welcome!” and my parent’s name.

This means that you are currently signed into your parent’s account. You’ll need to sign out of the parent account (how do I do that?).

After signing out, go back to your email and click on the link to set up your password again. Now, it should work!

Problem 2. It keeps saying the link is expired.

This happens when you request a password reset, but click on an old password setup or reset link. Yes, password reset requests affect your password setup link. Since your password setup link is unusable, you need to go to the password reset request email you received from us and click the link in there. Be sure to only open the most recent password reset request email you received from Aceable.
